The "fried rice" is just white rice with soy sauce on it. There are only ever a handful of choices, most of the bar is left empty and the food that is available is always cold. I have tried to give this place a fair chance, but it is just always terrible.
You can find better Chinese food- ANYWHERE. But you wont find it served colder than here at the not so Yummy Wok. Buffet selection is more limited than a grocery store salad bar. Not going back.
Very nasty food. Everything we ate was bad. Its not yummy wok its yucky wok
I order Lo Mian noodle 2 times 2day and got Mai Fun noodles. My replacement was WRONG. I gave up and made a grill cheese sandwich for finner
The food was great very nice visit
I don't like the fried rice at all, its not how i expected it would be, but the rest of the food is good. Service is good, and the decor is nice.
I used to like going there but the last time I went to get take out from there buffet the person taking my order and my pay begged for a tip. If he would have done anything to fill my order but I had to do it. Why would I tip and then to insult me in front of other customers I feel that is unappropriate and embarrassed me beyond belief. I won't go back until he is no longer there
There was no one else in the place but the service was slow and sloppy. The same Aaliyah song played on repeat for an entire hour, maybe more. This is NOT Hong Kong Inn/Yummy Wok as we knew it. Save your money and frustration!
Currently closed. Reopening under new owners.
Eight of us went there 7/31/16 and only one said they " might "returnand the food was just AWFUL !!! The Generals chicken, orange chicken and sesamee chicken all tasted the same.. My Kungpao chicken was just flavorless chicken in a congealed gravy so if you have active taste buds stay away !!
Very good food! Great staff!
It is currently closed. "Wasabi" coming soon.
Absolutely disgusting. I almost vomited after just a bite. The food was served on a stainless plate. I wonder if all their ceramics were dirty. Very odd presentation. The FDA needs to shut this place down asap.
I love the moo goo gia pan
I usually wouldnt do this but I had to give this place a bad review. The food tasted so horrible. We ordered the sesame chicken and chicken fried rice and honestly we threw most of it out. It was hardly edible. They drowned everything in soy sauce and the chicken was very hard to chew. Everything tasted charred.
THis is hands down the best place for chinese cuisine. I have dine at the majority of chines restaurants in Grand Rapids, and Yummy Wok is in my book the best!!!! The food is always fresh! If you order to-go, your items are prepared and placed in separate packaging for ultimate freshness, not combined together in a tin foil pan turning into soggy smush, like some other restaurants do! Decor is Clean and the ambience is warm with gold and burgandy throughout. The bathroom is exceptionally clean! Service is friendly and quick...even during the rush hour!
Stopped in with a friend, to try it out for dinner. Big mistake. 2 large parties took up a few tables, but otherwise they were dead. Went to sit down until noticed several tables were dirty, and staff just standing around chatting or joking with each other. No cared about cleaning up the place. A server approaches and stupidly asks if we'd like a table. No...we'll just stand here and eat out of the buffet .. I then asked for hot tea to start with. He tells me the pot is empty, but doesn't bother or offer to go make more, outside of not escorting us to a clean table. Whatever. We left promptly and have never returned.
I love the food here but the customer service is awful. They dont follow directions and then get short and snooty when you correct them. I've ordered takeout multiple times and the order is not right. They correct it but not with a happy face, for sure. I was hung up on earlier today for asking to speak with another employee. And a few weeks ago my friend and I went to eat in and no one was there about 10 minutes after open. 20 minutes later people strolled in and said it would be a half hour before we could order. Get it together, yummy wok.
Hot and fresh food, service is off decent quality
One of my TOP CHOICES for Chinese food. Fresh and hot the way food should be
Ate here twice, there will not be a third. Both times i ordered to go. First time they messed up my order and forgot one entree. Of course this was after I got home I called them they just said the would make it right next time. Really? Next time I call in. I remind them of this. Of course they know nothing. 2 weeks later. I place my order driver there. I talk to them there, yeah they know nothing I go ahead pay for food. 30 minutes me waiting, 45 after my call after seeing people come in order same thing as me, get it and go. Seriously people came in ordered same thing I did then wait get it and n leave. I already paid for it. I now just tell them give me my money back. They refuse miraculously give me my food. I check it right there. They forgot rice. Then as I am leaving they actually say to me they will make it right next time.
The food is always fresh. You can ask for no MSG and gluten free. The portion sizes are generous. It is one of the best Chinese places I've ever been. Friendly and fast service. I love their sizzling rice soup. It's the only Chinese food I eat.
We always enjoyed their Combination (Imperial) Lo Mein back since the days of Hong Kong Inn, but hadn't ordered it in a couple years. Today I was in the neighborhood so I picked some up. It was pretty awful, not at all the same. It is supposed to have four meats....chicken, pork, beef and shrimp. There was scarcely any meat or vegetables at all. It was 90% noodles and extremely bland. Very disappointing. We will not go back :( Yummy would not approve.....
I luv the hibachi ans the cooks are amazing
The food was alright, I would highly recommend First Wok right around the counter on 44th, they are one of the great Chinese food around. I have been going to them for years.
Sadly after the death of the owner, the place went downhill rather quickly. I miss the quality of what used to be - this is a very generic tasting place now.
Sesame Chicken is NASTY, stringing meat, NOT CHICKEN! Someone please investigate this restaurant!
Awesome service and great food too. My sister and I sat down and had dinner there. Nice and clean and quiet..Just what we needed.
Was overcharged $7 and the food is honestly disgusting. Sizzling rice soup had uncooked chicken and a mass amount of cabbage. Worst Chinese I’ve ever tried.
Neither the service or food has been good since the owner died.
Used to love it and go there all the time but suddenly went downhill.. hair in food etc. not as good as it was .. bummer
Great food and quick service
Absolutely disgusting Chinese food. I had to slather everything with hot mustard just to finish my plate. The lo mein was just not right, the noodles just seemed suspect and cold just like the rest of food in the buffet. Spend your 7 bucks around the corner at first wok, it's at least a step up.
Always a good meal, food is hot when it comes to the table !
This place did not give good service. We ordered takeout and came and picked it up. Got home. We only had half out food. The chicken wasn’t cooked all the way. It was very poor. 20$ wasted.
Since the original owner died the place has lost its flavor and it seems chaotic the employees need somebody to organize them better.
Grew up with same food from Hong Kong Inn, so glad to find the same food again. 🙄 Sizziling Rice Soup is awesome!!
Called for carry out and was told by the hostess who answered the phone that she's too busy to take my order and told me to come in and order my food instead. She then hung up on me. RUDE and unprofessional. NEVER going to eat there again or recommend!
I have been going for years but since the owner died the food has not been the. No one eating in restaurant. No waitress. The place look run down. I know the previous owner turning over in his gravel.
This is close to my work and I decided to try it for lunch since most of the reviews were great. I got the buffet... Most of the food didn't even look edible and I'm pretty sure there was a black hair in my egg roll. Needless to say I won't be going back.
Had dinner here last night. The food was good but we were the only two people in the restaurant. Their takeout service was busy.
My hubby and I have been frequenting Yummy Wok and are ALWAYS pleased with the food. Yesterday, the chef made sizzling rice soup table-side and it was amazing! Their food is reminiscent of the old Hong Kong. We have chosen different items from the very robust menu selection and we have yet to be disappointed! Way to go Yummy Wok. We will be back for sure!
I ordered vegetable Mei Fun and it was disgusting. It tasted like fish sauce and nothing else. I should have read the reviews first.
Rangoon was burnt on the outside and cold on the inside. Waitress had to go to the grocery store for ingredients for our food! The buffet was turned off at 230 but the food was still out at 430pm. Moo shoo was literlly all cabbage and no meat. The waitresses complained about thier job the while time. This place has tanked since the owner passed. Will never go here again.
Great service, friendly staff. Food was hot and tasted great.
Zacharys comment below pretty much sums it up for me today.
Food was pretty bad. It was worse than most other Chinese buffets.
Great place. Delicious food. Not too expensive. Very nice waiter.
